LONDON—Thunderous applause filled the auditorium during the final curtain call of the Chinese Spectacular as packed audiences bade farewell to the Divine Performing Arts dance company.

Sunday night's performance at London's top arts hub the Royal Festival Hall closed the U.K. leg of the show's world tour.

The New York-based company arrived in Britain on Thursday night from The Hague, Frankfurt and Duisberg, and played to full houses for four shows starting Friday and running through the weekend. The next stop on the tour is Paris opening on February 29th followed by Geneva and Vienna.

My Tang, a community worker from London said: "I loved it. The show was so great. I want to see it again and next time, bring my children. It was hard to get a ticket, we were so lucky we got one."

Virtually all 8,000 tickets were sold, including obstructed-view seats.

The Divine Performing Arts second company is touring Asia and is currently performing in Korea.

The company's aim is to show the beauty of Chinese culture through traditional dance and often drawing upon folk tales such as "The Loyalty of Yue Fei," the legendary Chinese warrior from the Song Dynasty. A 50-piece orchestra also accompanies the performances using a blend of Chinese and Western instruments.

Ballet teacher Lianne Cheong came to the Sunday night performance with her student Jeanette White.

"It was just fantastic. I'm quite familiar with the movements because I studied classical Chinese dance. My favourite was the water dance and the mountain dance. The performers were very very good," said Cheong.

For White, performances were a new experience. "I go to a lot of dance shows but it's all new to me. It's a different style of dance from what I know, but it was really fantastic."
