OSAKA—On the evening of February 20, 2008, Goro Maeda, a major comedy artist from the largest Japanese entertainment production company, Yoshimoto Kogyo Co., came to NHK Music Hall in Osaka to watch the last show of the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular . Goro's daughter, Mami Maeda, who is the new actress in Yoshimoto Kogyo's new comedy, also attended the show. The father and the daughter repeatedly praised the whole performance from its theatrical production, to the dances, costumes, theatrical pieces and cast.

Goro Maeda has been very impressed with the coordination of the whole performance he saw: "Many pieces were composed of ten, tweny or more performers, but the group performed harmoniously in such an order as if there were just one performer in the show. All the performers acted like one person, without making any mistakes. This is really great."

Mr. Maeda himself engages in theatrical productions. He said, "If I had to produce that kind of show, there would be no way. It's really a difficult task. All the performers acted like one person, from the beginning to the end, and they performed very cleanly on each piece with precision but with their focus on every detail."

Mr. Maeda said, "I often go to theaters. If I'm not attracted to the program, I am left feeling that it's too long. However, I was surprised to find the two hours had passed. The show was so excellent and fantastic that I lost track of the time."

Mr. Maeda continued, "I liked the 'Drummers of the Tang Court' the most in the first half of the show. I liked the 'Victory Drums' piece in the second half."

He also praised the splendid costumes, saying that "In Japan, if the program was so luxurious and splendid, in order to achieve harmony, the costumes would be relatively plain. Yet the costumes in today's show were made up of all sorts of bright colors, but you didn't feel tired with those kinds of colors. Such color harmonization and arrangement for color combinations are really great!"

Goro also praised the production's background. "It's amazing that the background can project fires," he said. "I haven't seen that in Japan."

Mr. Maeda said that he could understand the content of the programs. "In Japan, filial to one's parents is a very important tradition, but it's being gradually forgotten. This show reminds us of the importance of these traditions."

Mr. Maeda continued, "There are many things that have happened between China and Japan. If we could communicate through beautiful performances such as this, everyone would be able to see things from the same perspective. Then there wouldn't be these problems. I wish all the people who have said things about conflict between China and Japan would come to watch this show. Then they would become more peaceful and loving."

Mr. Maeda also expressed that he would promote the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular to all the social sectors. He said, finally, that the Spectacular show can be hopefully performed in more places around the world.
