LONDON—David and Louise Taylor were delighted with the performance of the Chinese Spectacular in London on Saturday evening.
"The show was absolutely spectacular, marvellous, superb, absolutely wonderful," Mr. Taylor said.
"It really makes you feel the very fine points of the art involved, the delicacy of the art. It's not just heavy stuff, it's beautiful, beautiful."
He said the show could be compared it with the intricacies and ornation of the baroque period: "You know what I mean - fine detail, beautiful, very emotional. I feel that it appeals to the emotions."
"We love music, and we both go to arts exhibitions, and we do feel that this is on the highest level," he said.
Mr. Taylor is a pharmacist and Mrs. Taylor is a pianist. Mr. Taylor said that he loved the erhu, often called a Chinese violin. Mrs. Taylor said she was interested to see that it was "bowed like a cello" (held upright).
Mrs. Taylor some Chinese opera in Beijing and said she would have liked to accompany the singers.
"I do quite a lot of concert work, and I teach music - piano and cello," she said.
"What really fascinates me is that the Chinese pentatonic scale totally limits the composer (because it only has 5 notes) and yet, the ingenuity of putting together the compositions is amazing .You can't imagine how you can get a different type of melody at times, but you do."
She said anyone who likes Chinese things would enjoy watching the Spectacular .
