LONDON—Among the delighted theatre-goers who attended the Chinese Spectacular at London's Royal Festival Hall on Saturday was Clement Chung, a secondary school teacher from North London.
"I thought it was excellent, a very entertaining evening," he said.
When asked which aspect of the performance he found most impressive, Mr Chung replied, "The range of performances and the variety, and the talent as well. And the drumming — drumming always gets to you doesn't it?"
Chung also enjoyed the diversity the show offered.
"But at the same time there was very much a mixture. It had a sense of tranquillity to it, and then with the drumming, it sort of brought things to life. So there was a variety there"
Through the use of traditional dance and music, the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular aims to revive the artistic culture and values of ancient China.
Mr Chung said he felt a sense of this cultural revival because his grandfather was Chinese.
"Yes, I think every society needs to keep that aspect of its culture alive, and I suppose China is changing so much these days that these are the things that if we're not careful could quite easily get lost," he said.
When asked whether he would encourage friends and family to attend future performances, Mr Chung replied, "Oh definitely, without a doubt."
