OSAKA—Shimo Kato Zyunko, a Kobe resident, is a fan of Awa Odori, one the three major Japanese folk dances. On February 19 Shimo took a trolley from Kobe to Osaka for the evening show of the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Splendor at the Osaka NHK Music Hall. After the show, Shimo said "Every performer's hand gestures flowed so gracefully like running water. I must tell all my Awa Odori friends in Kobe Jwiconurl where I live about my feelings toward today's show.”

Having eight years of dancing experience, Shimo said, "From the performer's physical flexibility, I can tell their basic training is solid. The choreography is very particular, it is new and original.

Shimo also said, "When the curtain rose, the first program 'Descent of the Celestial Kings' was just heart-warming to me. The backdrop with the three dimensional perception was very in tune with the performance over all. This show was flawless. The confident smiles of every performer left me with a profound impression.”

Shimo is also a fan of Chinese Classical literature and likes to read it often, especially the "Romance of the Three Kingdoms." Because of this she was fascinated to learn more about the 5,000 years of Chinese traditions from the show.

Shimo is in charge of the Kobe Jwiconurl Awa Odori dance group, which has 60 dancers and belongs to Tokushima Awa Odori Dance Promotion Association. When she returned home, she published her views of the evening show on the Jwiconurl website. "On February 19, I watched the Chinese classic dancing arts performance. All performers are physically very flexible, their finger tips are exquisite, very touching. The expression of these dancing programs is an important technique suitable for Awa Odori dancing. Their smiles are full of confidence reflecting the achievement of their high skills. It enabled me to realize the importance of practicing dancing with a purpose, and with a means to express the overall beauty.”
