NEW YORK—The Chinese New Year Splendor at Radio City Music Hall attracted a diverse audience, including university students. Among them were Julio Marquez and Adela Effendy, who especially enjoyed what they called the deep inner meaning of the performances.
Julio, an East Asian Studies major in his senior year at Rutgers University, took great interest in the cultural meaning in many acts. "I really liked it, it was really good," said Marquez. "I am definitely going to recommend it to a few people."
He added that he also enjoyed the solo vocal performances. "The singers were great because the lyrics were something that I personally believe in; that we all come from the divine," said Marquez.
Adela, a sociology major at Drew University in New Jersey, described seeing the Chinese New Year Splendor as "a good experience." She added that part of the experience was the inner meaning of the performances. "There was a lot of meaning behind it," said Effendy. "It brought about awareness about what is going on there [in China]."
When it came to the vocal performances, Effendy said she couldn't name a favorite performer, since she was paying special attention to what they were singing about. "I was focused on the lyrics," she said. "I could really identify with them."
