NAGOYA, Japan—Mr. Chai is a Chinese chef who came to Japan eight years ago from mainland China. He watched the Divine Performing Arts Spectacular in Nagoya on Feb. 17 and found it very moving on a cultural and spiritual level.
Mr. Chai did not leave the theater immediately after the show was over. He stood in a corner, reading the program brochure quietly. His eyes were reddish with tears. "We are extremely moved after watching the show," he said.
"Especially in the second half of the show, the value of 'Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance' was displayed. It is actually what people aspire spiritually. We are extremely moved after watching these programs. We feel that as Chinese, that value is precisely what we long for."
Having difficulty holding back his excitement, Mr. Chai added: "It is an exhibition of the true history of the 5,000 years of Chinese civilization, truly different from the shows I had seen inside China. Those dances performed in China didn't have any substantial content. After watching them, nothing was left in my mind. Today's dances, to the contrary, made me feel uplifted and inspired."
"Nowadays, due to the education system in China, we young people do not have the opportunity to learn about and have a better understanding of gods and buddhas. After I watched the Spectacular last year and this year, I really came to understand that gods and buddhas are omnipresent. We can really feel it: gods and buddhas are indeed with us."
Mr. Chai introduced the Spectacular to many of his friends because he greatly enjoyed last year's show. They came together this year. Mr. Chai said, "We all feel this show is wonderful."
