FRANKFURT—"It was a wonderful, colorful show. The dances were wonderful and so were the solo performers", said Mr. Barke, a staff member at the Jahrhunderthalle performance hall in Frankfurt.
The show is the Shen Yun Chinese Spectacular, by New York-based Divine Performing Arts.
Mr Burke added, "I have already seen many performances on Chinese culture at this venue but this one was outstanding. This is much more entertaining because it is better suited to European tastes", Mr. Burke commented.
He also found the show's portrayal of the human rights situation in China very interesting.
"I'm surprised that they can bring this to us. A state-sponsored performing troupe probably could never show anything like that. People understood that; even the young people appreciated it and found it good," said Barke.
He thought that the audience was pretty happy and some of them were very excited. The "wonderful, great choreography was appreciated by everyone."
Mrs. Huang is studying economics and comes from Southern China. She has been living in Germany for five years.
She said that now she has seen the Shen Yun Show, she feels especially connected to her home.
"I liked all of the pieces. There was one dance about Falun Gong which was called 'Rising Lotus Flowers'. It has touched me and I asked myself, 'why we don't just say whatever we'd like to say in China?'"
