GERMANY—"I knew the [show] would be great, so I invited my son to come with me," says Peng Xiaoming, Chairman of Germany Student Union, after watching the first showing of the Chinese New Year Splendor in Duisburg, Germany with his son.
Peng Xiaoming saw the Divine Performing Art's Splendor as a great opportunity for his son Peng Qiuhe, a student majoring in Latin at the University of Cologne, to learn more about Chinese culture.
The Splendor brought to life legends, such as "Chang'e, the Lady in the Moon" and "Hou Yi, the Sun-shooter," that Peng Qiuhe had once heard from his father but could never fully visualize. Peng Qiuhe described the show as "very moving" and said his favorite program was the song performed by tenor Guan Guimin.
Peng Xiaoming told The Epoch Times, "The programs we saw today encourage [my son] to study traditional culture. I think this is great. For the younger generations who live far from the home country to still be able to think about China's culture, traditions, ethics and morals is a great thing."
Originating from Shanghai in Jiangnan Province, Peng Xiaoming was most moved by dances that come from southern China.
Peng Xiaoming described his experience after seeing the fan dance and "Water Sleeves" dance, "When I saw the backdrop of green mountain and rivers and the charm of girls from the Jiangnan region, I felt very nostalgic. I haven't returned home for ten years, but now on stage, I can see such charm and [hear] such heavenly music. I felt very fortunate and touched."
