TOKYO—As soon as the first Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular came to a close in Tokyo on February 12th, Mr. Shiomi, a civil servant at Kasumi Gaseki of Japan, expressed his delight with the show.

"All the programs were gorgeous," he said.

"I was seated at the front row. I feel that even if the ticket price were to be three times higher, I wouldn't be surprised at all. It is an outstanding performance."

Mr. Shiomi spoke highly of the dance, Ladies of The Manchu Court.

"The dance was very elegant. The costumes are very bright and the dancers' movements are very graceful," he said.

Shiomi liked all the programs. He especially enjoyed Drummers of the Tang Court, The Fruits of Goodness and the pieces that depicted the persecution of Falun Gong.

"The performers' movements are so graceful — it's just exquisite. The movements showing inner strength are firm and powerful and the movements showing gentleness are very delicate and feminine. It's truly wonderful."

Shiomi has seen many Chinese movies, but this was the first time he has seen such a large scale performance of Chinese classical dance.

"Compared with the Chinese movies I have seen, the performance is contemporary and the colors are brilliant. It's certainly up to what one expects from a New York-based performing company."

In the end, Mr. Shiomi summarized his feelings in three words: "Contemporary, festive and graceful!"

The next evening, Mr. Shiomi came to watch Chinese Spectacular a second time.
