FRANKFURT—The Shen Yun Chinese Spectacular played to an enthusiastic audience Sunday afternoon at the Jahrhunderthalle in Frankfurt.

"I was delighted that such important political statements were made during the performances, by the artistry of the Chinese dances and the gorgeous costumes," said Mechthild Kepp.

Ms. Kepp said she was very glad to see "The Risen Lotus Flower" and that the piece was made available to a broad public. In this scene, three women are imprisoned because they practice Falun Gong, a peaceful spiritual practice brutally persecuted in China. After one of the three women is beaten to death, she appears to the two surviving practitioners during their most bitter hours.

Ms. Kepp, formerly employed in the publishing industry, enjoyed the songs very much. "Especially the first one took my interest, because it contained a political statement," she said. She had not expected to hear soloists.

Also, Adelheit Scherer, an agronomist from near Giessen who came to the show with Ms. Krepp, agreed that the political statements impressed them. And she added, "But, we also were impressed by the dances—it was as if the dancers were floating."

"Very beautiful and colorful costumes! The costumes and the themes matched each other very well and were very well incorporated," said Laura Volk, a student at the Frankfurt prep school for teachers. She was moved by the piece "The Risen Lotus Flowers," which started out very sorrowful and brutal, "but then the transition to the visions was done extremely well. One saw that despite the sadness and the violence there is hope. The transition was very well done."

Performed by Divine Performing Arts on Tour, the Shen Yun Chinese Spectacular will play three shows in Frankfurt before continuing on to Berlin and Hamburg. For other shows in the Divine Performing Arts world tour, please visit: www.shenyun.eu
