FRANKFURT—"After seeing these colours I will change the concept of my next collection," said celebrated fashion designer Henrieta Duffner. Czech by origin, Duffner now lives in Germany and takes her fashion all over the world. She recently earned big accolades for her extravagant, distinctly feminine collections in New York which is where she first heard about the Chinese Spectacular.

"I was invited to see this show when I was in New York for the Fashion Week but it wasn't possible for me to go. Then I heard about it again here in Germany and thought I have to see it. It was destiny that I came here," said Duffner who attended the performance on February 17 in Frankfurt.

Duffner was particularly impressed by the costumes. "You can't find such colours in Germany anymore. This is absolutely new and completely different." Duffner now wants to change the colours in her upcoming collection "because my colours are a little dull in comparison."

"The costumes inspired me in such a way that I have to go home now and work," said Duffner laughing. "I planned my collection in a different way but now after seeing these colours and the life of the colours, I have to think about it, maybe I will revamp the whole thing."

"There were so many little princesses gently dancing in beautiful dresses," said Duffner. "It was like a dream." She added that "Everybody should see this show… because it's very relaxing. It could cool me down on a stressful day."

While Duffner enthused about the visual beauty of the show, she also was moved by the Risen Lotus Flower. "The story with the three women in prison moved me and my mother to tears," said Duffner who attended with her mother, also a fashion designer.

"I was really touched by the way the three women stick together, how that one woman protects the others by guarding them and then dies and goes to heaven as I understood it. This deeply moved me. Such is life and this is the way we all should act."

Overall, Duffner was impressed by the show being at the same time "new and very modern" and also "traditional and educational."

She said she liked that "Chinese tradition was combined with modern dance," adding that she hadn't imagined this is how traditional Chinese music would sound. "It was so contemporary that you could listen to it all day long. I never heard erhu before but it sounds wonderful and unbelievable. You don't need an orchestra, two strings are enough."

"Chinese Spectacular is the correct name for the show because it's so spectacular."
