FRANKFURT, Germany—"I enjoyed it very much," said Thomas Brunner during the intermission of the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular, which took place at the Frankfurt Century Hall (Jahrhunderthalle) Saturday evening.
"The program with the drums touched me the most; however, I also liked the dances very much. I have two or three favorites..."
"For one, the drum piece before the intermission [Editor's note: 'Drummers of the Tang Court'], then the 'Mongolian Bowl Dance' and the Tibetan dance with the long white scarves." Brunner adds, "And also the dance of the water nymphs—I enjoyed them very much, too."
The presentation of each act by the two emcees, a Chinese lady who speaks German and an American man who speaks Mandarin Chinese, also impressed him. "It was done very well and very witty," Brunner said.
Mr. Brunner is a key account manager at one of the three largest real estate Internet portals in Germany for which he manages publishers of different print media. He is a resident of Nuremberg and attended the premiere of Chinese Spectacular in Frankfurt accompanied by his fiancée, Nadine Aurich.
When asked what he had learned about Chinese culture, Brunner answered that he had already acquired information before the show and had some knowledge, but "One, of course, always learns something new about the culture."
"I think that here [in the show] some things have been addressed that you can't learn about in a regular Chinese performance—the female singers showed this clearly through their lyrics," he said, smiling.
"I would like to watch it again next year, and I will also recommend it to anyone who is interested. Absolutely!" he said.
