FRANKFURT—The Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular continued its world tour Sunday evening with its second show at Frankfurt's Jahrhunderthalle (Century Hall). Among the audience was a delighted Astrid Stein-Bichler.
"I liked it very much. I liked the colors, I liked the costumes, the artists how they were dancing. It was pretty nice stuff," said Stein-Bichler.
An economist working for a local law office, Stein-Bichler learned about the show through some friends of hers who practice Falun Gong.
"I was really astonished by how exactly they printed [on the backdrop] what they wanted to tell us about China and what is happening there," she said.
"And then you can imagine the prison later when they tell about Falun Gong how people are practicing in parks and how they were dancing and then the three who wanted to take them as prisoners," she said.
Stein-Bichler was referring to an act in the show that tells the story of a contemporary tragedy in China: the persecution of Falun Gong, a meditation practice and spiritual discipline currently being brutally suppressed by the Chinese communist regime.
"I guess this was their belief, I guess this was pretty easy to understand."
She also remarked that despite the language difference, the translations onto the shows digital backdrop made things easy to follow, "It's not too easy to understand everything but if you see from letters and written words it's easier." While Stein-Bichler said her favorite performances were the two concerning about Falun Gong, she also enjoyed Nymphs of the Sea and Drummers of the Tang Court.
"A very exciting piece was when the seaside was in the back, you didn't know what it was, it should be water. It was moving and moving and finally the person came out of it. This was really, really exciting because you couldn't figure out what could it be."
"This was nice and some parts with the drums, the drummers were very colourful. The artists and the show with the man when they were jumping, when how it was expressed, but they were jumping really high and it's performed really well," she said.
