FRANKFURT—The Divine Performing Arts Shen Yun Chinese Spectacular continues to delight audiences during its run at Frankfurt's Jahrhunderthalle (Century Hall).
In 2007, Divine Performing Arts visited Germany for the first time and performed in Berlin.
"Every year there is something different," said Mrs. Rackhof who saw the Saturday evening performance in Frankfurt and who also attended last year's Spectacular in Berlin.
"I liked the water nymphs with the blue fans [Nymphs of the Sea]. That was like a water fall, so beautiful to look at, it was wonderful. The colors are always very vibrant, very pleasing to the eye."
The Rackofs also mentioned a scene in the show which tells the story of a contemporary tragedy in China: the persecution of Falun Gong, a meditation practice and spiritual discipline currently being brutally suppressed by the Chinese communist regime.
Dr. Rackhof said, "This is… I thought previously, not an obtrusive message…not obtrusive, that is it, yes."
Fränze Koch, comparing Chinese traditional dances with western classical ballet, said, "Especially the steps that the girls perform, they are totally different than the European ballet, aren't they? They touch down with their heels, the men as well."
The former furrier said she was impressed by the costumes and the graceful arm movements of the dancers coupled with the harmonious music.
"The Chinese music is very individual, very Asian. One cannot compare this with the Russians or the Europeans."
Even the instruments are different, she said. For example, the two-stringed Chinese instrument, the erhu, played by Qi Xiaochun. "The lady played a wonderful composition."
She said that the content of the show was especially important for her, particularly the performances about the Falun Gong spiritual group and the Tibetans.
"The entire Chinese culture and what has happened to them, this brutality, that Falun Gong is being persecuted and that the Tibetans were attacked and expelled from their country." Koch said she would really like to see the show again to deepen her appreciation of the it's contents and to study the lyrics projected onto backdrops that were translated from Chinese.
Performed by Divine Performing Arts on Tour, the Shen Yun Chinese Spectacular will play three shows in Frankfurt before continuing on to Berlin and Hamburg. For information about other Divine Performing Arts shows, please visit: http://www.shenyun.eu/
