FRANKFURT—"I enjoyed it very much," said Thomas Brunner during intermission of the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular at the Frankfurt Jahrhunderthalle (Century Hall) on Feb. 17.
"The program with the drums has touched me the most. I also liked the dances very much," said Mr. Brunner, a senior account manager at one of the three largest real estate Internet portals in Germany.
"I have two, three favorites. The drum piece before the intermission, then the 'Mongolian Bowl Dance' and the Tibetan dance with the long white scarves."
Mr. Brunner, a resident of Nuremberg who saw the premiere of the Spectacular in Frankfurt with his fiancé, Nadine Aurich, added, "And also the dance of the water nymphs [Nymphs of the Sea]. I also enjoyed them very much."
The change of presentation between each program by the two Masters of Ceremonies — a Chinese woman who speaks German and an American who speaks Chinese — also impressed him. "Done very well and very wittily," said Mr. Brunner.
When asked what he had learned about Chinese culture, Mr. Brunner said he already had acquired some information before the show, but "One of course learns something new about the culture. I think that here some things have been addressed that one could not learn about in a normal Chinese performance — the lady singers have displayed it clearly with their lyrics," he said, smiling.
"I regret that I have not had an opportunity yet to travel to China. I am very busy in my work and therefore my time is scarcely planned." he said.
The show did spark his curiosity to learn more about Chinese culture by visiting China. "More than before in any case, one somehow is closer to" the culture.
"I would like to watch it again next year and I will also recommend it to anyone who is interested. Absolutely!" he said.
