DUISBURG—"I have not been to China for ten years. When I see such divine representations of the innermost self, and China, I feel deeply moved and honored."
“We regret having taken the wrong train, that's why we are somewhat late. Although we missed the beginning of the presentation, we were able to view most of the show," said Xiaming Peng, head of the Organization of Chinese Students and Scientists.
Peng was commenting on the Shen Yun Chinese Spectacular, which captivated audiences during its two-day run in Duisburg on Feb. 13 and 14.
Peng brought his son, Qiuhe, who is a student in Cologne, to see the show with him. Although Qiuhe grew up in Germany, he knows a great deal about traditional Chinese culture.
“I had told my son a long time ago about the legend of “The Woman in the Moon” but it was too abstract for him to understand,” said Peng.
“Seeing the legend portrayed tonight on stage is a motivation for him to learn more about Chinese culture. I think it is a good idea for all young people to learn about their own culture, customs and traditions when they are far from home.”
“What really impressed me were the “Fan Dance” and “Water Sleeves,” added Peng.
“I hail from the south of China. My wife and I are both from Shanghai and miss the southern Chinese landscape very much. I was also moved by the Dance “Over the Green Mountain.” The sight of the green waters and the divine souls of the Chinese people as it was portrayed here, made me become quite homesick. I have not been to China for ten years. When I see such divine representations of the innermost self, and China, I feel deeply moved and honored.”
Qiuhe, who studies Latin at the University of Cologne and speaks Chinese, said he also enjoyed the Spectacular, especially tenor Guan Guimin.
Performed by Divine Performing Arts on Tour, the Shen Yun Chinese Spectacular will play three shows in Frankfurt before continuing on to Berlin and Hamburg. For other shows in the Divine Performing Arts world tour, please visit: www.shenyun.eu
