TOKYO—Zhu Qingxiang, a former teacher in Mainland China who now resides in Tokyo took in the second performance of Divine Performing Arts' Chinese Spectacular at Kosei Nenkin Kaikan Wednesday.
When we spoke with Zhu, he looked happily at his wife and said, "After watching this evening's show, I feel Chinese culture is really marvelous."
"I am going to send my two children to Chinese school to have them inherit Chinese culture. They would not be Chinese if they don't know Chinese language."
"We recently saw a performance of Nippon Taiko (a large Japanese drum) show at a friend's wedding by the first prize winner in Japan. After seeing Divine Performing Arts' show today, we know that Chinese drumming is superior," he said.
Zhu mentioned he saw Divine Performing Arts on DVD a few years ago, "But the vibrations are different when watching the show live. There is this three-dimensional feeling, the drum's beating is robust, and it's real. The experience is definitely different."
"In the program 'The Rising Lotus Flower', the heavens took them away. I feel the implication is very deep. People need spiritual support. Without it, people will be like walking corpses."
Zhu remarked with a twinkle in his eye, "Even though I didn't have any coffee today, I didn't fall asleep. This evening's show lifted my spirits."
"If [the Chinese Spectacular] can be shown in Mainland China, it would be so great. Only this is our real culture and our five thousand year history, specifically the [culture of] the most prosperous Tang Dynasty."
"It is good. It is truly good, truly good," Zhu said repeatedly, "It was worth coming."
