"That's what it was about in the entire show, that people have their freedom"

GERMANY—Christisan Betke and Salome Wiesenberg, both architects from Duisburg, attended the final production of the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular in Duisburg on Thursday evening.

They enjoyed the Spectacular’s diversity and colors. Mr. Betke said he had never experienced a show like it before, adding that he liked the drumming numbers the best. “It was very, very energetic.” He also enjoyed Mongolian Bowl Dance. “That was great,” he said.

“I know how difficult it is to balance something on one's head,” said Wiesenberg.

Mr. Betke also commented on a performance that portrays a contemporary tragedy in China: the persecution of those who practice Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline.

“I enjoyed most that those oppressed people rose up again. This openness, when the evil people came in, then they were again shoved away, so that the people could be free again. That was the real purpose of the entire show, that the people have freedom.”

Former mine worker Gerd Grabner was impressed by a scene in which policemen attack a group of Falun Gong practitioners, but locals rally round and help chase the policemen away.

“Yes the message was to be good, just like that. Anyway I thought that was incredibly awesome,” the retiree said. “It was worthwhile to come and watch this show,” he said.
