Duisburg—"I had the feeling that everything was so pure, just like in ancient China," explained the childcare worker Melanie Rechau, who had come to the premiere of the Chinese Spectacular with her friend. "It was very graceful and original. One can say that there was nothing bad, even if that sounds somewhat peculiar," she said. She perceived a totally different feeling from other shows.
"I liked mostly the Chinese singing and lyrics," commented Janet Hölzer, her friend, who also is a childcare worker. She was surprised that she enjoyed Chinese classical singing very much, especially as she does not usually listen to classical singing.
The dancing fascinated Melanie Rechau. "Everything was synchronized, incredibly synchronized. They must have worked very hard to be able to perform like this. They walked backwards without looking back. One has to be careful not jump up join the dance. That is fascinating."
The show's emphasis on ancient Chinese history fascinated this young lady. Two acts demonstrate the Chinese government's persecution of Falun Gong. "Now I can understand why the Chinese government does not want this show. … I have read that the Chinese government in some countries asks the Chinese not to go to the show. That is truly wicked."
After learning that, he then thought that the show must be something special, and she hopes that the performance can contribute to "changing something about the situation in China."
The Chinese Spectacular runs February 13 and 14 in Duisburg, Germany.
