DIUSBURG—Renata Grosskreruz and her children Sven and Janette thoroughly enjoyed the opening night of the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular in Duisburg, Germany, on Wednesday.

The laboratory chemist from Dortmund decided to come after listening to the advice of a colleague.

"I'm here for the first time. My colleague recommended the show. She is Chinese. I just said, well, we will go." Grosskreruz, a young mother, felt grateful for show's wholesomeness.

"Generally it is very difficult to go somewhere with children. This is a really beautiful show. The children liked it too. Janette takes ballet classes and about 80 per cent of this show is ballet." When asked what they liked best, the trio all tried to answer at once.

"The dance with the bowls – just beautiful," said Ms. Grosskreuz, referring to the "Mongolian Bowl Dance." Her daughter, Janette, was impressed by the scene where "the one with the mustache who bit into the cloth."

She was referring to "The Loyalty of Yue Fei," in which Yue Fei, a famous Chinese General, bit down on a piece of cloth when his mother tattooed the well-known symbols "Serving One's Country Loyally," on his back.

The brother and sister were in agreement on what they liked the best – the drums. "They are pretty loud. I like when it is loud!" Their mother interjected, "And naturally the wonderful music." Asked whether she would recommend the Spectacular, Grosskreuz said, "Yes, one has to see it!"

The Chinese Spectacular runs February 13 and 14 in Duisburg, Germany.
