TOKYO—New Yorkers on vacation, Jen and Mike Campbell took in the Chinese Spectacular in Japan on Wednesday.

Mrs. Campbell said her favorite performance was the "The Mongolian Bowl" dance.

"I loved that. The one with the cups. That was amazing. The symbolism. The way it was choreographed. The way it was coordinated. And also just the beautiful colour," she said.

She said the dancers' costumes were "very vibrant, beautiful."

While Mr. Campbell particularly enjoyed the drums.

"I like the drummers a lot. Just the fact that they are so energetic … They did really, really well," he said.

Mr. Campbell noticed the female dances looked very different from the male dances.

"They way they [the females] dance is a lot more intricate and you can see a lot more of it. And the male dancers are of course more masculine and they have to show their masculine abilities," he said.

Mr. Campbell also enjoyed the themes behind the stories.

"It was good. I think the choreography is … very well laid out," he said.

Mrs. Campbell liked the Chinese myths and legends, like "Lady of the Moon," "where the husband and wife were trying to save everyone out of the heat" and the Legend of Yue Fei.

"That was pretty powerful. That what pretty powerful especially when she inscribes the characters on his back and the way he allows her to—that was pretty touching," she said.

They both said they thought Chinese culture is "very deep."

"Very vibrant, very very vibrant. It is amazing, yeah it is amazing. Very deep. Very rich," Mrs. Campbell said.

The Spectacular will be showing in Tokyo at Bunkyo Civic Hall on Friday. For other shows in the Divine Performing Arts world tour, please visit: http://www.DivinePerformingArts.org/ .
