TOKYO-As a Chinese descendant born in Indonesia, student Tricia Manansang feels that she doesn't really know about the true Chinese culture.
She said: "All I know about it is that China is a big country with its economic developing bigger day by day, but at the same time it faces many problems within the country."
She expressed her feelings after seeing the Chinese Spectacular in Tokyo on February 13 as: "I learned that China is actually very good in terms of its traditional culture and history."
In terms of the show, she said: "I found the costumes to be very beautiful. The backdrop and music are very amazing too.
She also concerned about several performances like "The Risen Lotus Flower", and "The Power of Awareness", as she understands it represents the limited freedom in China. "I don't understand why they are so strict with people," she said.
Matsuda, a cook in Japan said that he loves the drums performance in Spectacular. "I know that every country has its own special way to play the drums, like we Japanese play drums with less movement," he said.
"But the Tang Court Drummers I saw here has a very wonderful dance, with powerful sounds and great drums. I was really amazed by the way they play it."
Matsuda also said that the Spectacular is very pure. "I've never seen show like this before," he said. "It's full of traditional Chinese culture and history, which a Japanese people like me need to understand and appreciate. It expresses the point of view of traditional Chinese people. Very inspiring."
Then, after stopping for some seconds, he added: "Actually I don't even think Japan has ever made a show like this to praise our traditional culture and people. It's very important."
The Spectacular will be showing in Tokyo at Bunkyo Civic Hall on Friday. For other shows in the Divine Performing Arts world tour, please visit: http://www.DivinePerformingArts.org/ .
