NEW YORK—Throughout its 11-day run at Radio City Music Hall, the Chinese New Year Splendor delighted audiences with its authentic portrayal of Chinese culture. Ben Inditch and his wife, Janet, who attended the Jan, 6 show, were impressed with what they saw.

"We thought it was a lovely program. It had a sweet little quality, very sweet," said Inditch, a writer.

"Of course they disagreed with the Chinese government, but not with the Chinese people. It seemed to be very honest to ancient traditions. I really thought it was honest, but it had its own mind and it spoke courageously.

"But they didn't emphasize that, so that one could enjoy the show without worrying too much about unpleasant things." Inditch added that a recent negative review of the Splendor published in the New York Times "would have frightened some people away. It wasn't justified—it was a very nice show."

Janet, an artist and sculptor, was impressed by every aspect of the show.

"We liked the stories that were presented, we loved the costumes and the dancers. It was really a super show. Everybody should come and see it."

Janet said she particularly enjoyed "Watersleeves" and "The Risen Lotus Flower."

"One of them I think was called Lotus… I also liked the one with the green fans and the four symbols I remember that one, and another one before that with the long sleeves, the one with the water."

"I have to admit I was very partial to the drumming," said Inditch. "I've seen drumming before, it's always exciting, and the dancing was very good."

"We have seen Chinese American people in theatre, in plays, but this was the first time... I was astonished there was so many good people, they were very good, everybody. I felt that it certainly was very honest, both of us felt that way, to the Chinese people as such."
