NEW YORK—As the Chinese New Year Splendor played its final show at Radio City Music Hall on Saturday night, the performers received an enthusiastic standing ovation from an appreciative audience.

Andrew Hamilton, Provost of Yale University, and his wife Jennifer, attended Saturday's show.

When asked how the Splendor measured up against other Broadway shows he has seen, Hamilton said, "Oh, this is much grander, much larger; very colorful."

Mrs. Hamilton, an ESL Instructor, was equally impressed.

"I think it's much bigger than most Broadway shows. I liked the way they introduced the different instruments, the Chinese instruments — it was clever."

Hamilton said he gained a deeper understanding of Chinese culture from the Splendor , "particularly the dance and the music.

"It is very interesting because I have traveled to China once, and so it was very interesting to see in a deeper way the dance and the music, and the drumming."

The couple commented that they enjoyed the orchestra and found the drummers "most impressive."

As for their favorite piece, Mr. Hamilton said, "I particularly enjoyed "Water Sleeves," it was beautiful."

Mrs. Hamilton said she liked the piece "Nymphs of the Sea."

"I particularly enjoyed the one where they had the water, like it was falling — that was very clever."

The Divine Performing Arts international touring companies land next in Germany and Japan.
