NEW YORK—As Chinese New Year Splendor wrapped up its 11-day run at New York's Radio City Hall, it was greeted by a full house and received a standing ovation.

Many audience members expressed their appreciation for the show.

"It is very pretty, and I learned a lot about Chinese history," commented insurance analyst Kurt Kalata. While he was attracted by the visuals of the show, he was particularly impressed by the erhu, a two-stringed Chinese traditional instrument similar in sound to a violin.

His colleague at AIG insurance company, Sophia Freire, an insurance agent, was also taken by Splendor. "I liked the show quite a bit. I was very impressed by the dancers. Not having any rhythm, I am greatly impressed by people who actually do." She also appreciated the beautiful costumes.

Sophia enjoyed seeing different ethnic groups of China represented in the show. Featuring Mongolian and Korean dances, Splendor presents a glimpse of the ethnic diversity that contributed to the development of China's rich culture.

Having lived in China, Sophia was familiar with Chinese dance, but realized that in China she would not have had access to performances such as those depicting the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. "That will not be performed on any stage in China," said Sophia.

"The sponsors should be really proud. It was a wonderful performance," she added.

The Divine Performing Arts international touring companies land next in Germany and Japan.
