NEW YORK—Mr. & Mrs. O'Meara attended the Saturday matinee of the Chinese New Year Splendor at Radio City Music Hall, bringing along their adopted Chinese daughter, Mimi.
The entire family said they enjoyed the show. Mimi beamed and said she liked the show, her favorite part being the piece, "Nymphs of the Sea," which included a gentle fan dance.
Mr. O'Meara whose favorite segments were the highly energetic drumming numbers, said, "We read the article in the [New York] Times yesterday saying the Chinese government didn't want people to come to this show. We're rebels."
Though they have been to Shanghai, Mrs. O'Meara said they weren't aware of the eight-year persecution of Falun Gong, a meditation practice and spiritual discipline. A scene in the show tells the story of this contemporary tragedy in China.
"I didn't know much about Falun Gong, so it's something I'd like to learn more about." Adding that the Chinese communist regime's reaction "is endorsement enough" to do so.
After playing 15 shows in New York between January 30 and February 9, the Chinese New Year Splendor will continue its tour of over 65 cities worldwide with its next stop in Europe.
The Divine Performing Arts international touring companies land next in Germany and Japan.
