NEW YORK—After attending the opening of the Divine Performing Arts’ Chinese New Year Splendor at Radio City Music Hall on Wednesday, Mr. Roy Innis, the National Chairmen of the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), said the show was “a great artistic success.”
“I am very impressed with the technology and the artistic creativity put together to create this show,” he said.
The aim of Divine Performing Arts is to revive traditional Chinese performing arts and present the Chinese culture that flourished throughout China's 5,000 years of history, drawing from dynasties such as the Tang Dynasty which many consider China's Golden Age.
“I liked the classical singers. They are very well trained — very good voices. They are so good they do not need microphones,” said Innis.
He compared them with other high-level singers he had heard.
“I listen to a lot of opera, Italian opera. I've been to the NYC opera, and these [ Splendor ] singers are good enough to sing in those venues. You can compare with any other kind of singer in the world. They have a great voice projection, and phrasing and stamina.”
Beyond aesthetic beauty, themes that run through many of the shows’ dance and musical pieces include the virtues that were lived by in ancient China: courage, loyalty, honesty, filial piety, compassion, faith, and search for spiritual truth.
The Chinese New Year Splendor continues in New York through Saturday, February 9. For other shows in the Divine Performing Arts world tour, please visit: www.Divineperformingarts.org The Epoch Times is a proud sponsor of the Chinese New Year Splendor.
