SAN FRANCISCO—Nidia Sanchez, a teacher who was on a trip from Colombia, South America, attended NTDTV's Chinese New Year Spectacular at the San Francisco Orpheum Theatre.
During an interview before the show, she said that she was very excited and explained, "I watched an advertisement about this show on TV. [I wanted to come] because I am fascinated by culture. Asian culture, Chinese Culture, especially… it is wonderful."
After the show, Nidia declared the show to be "beautiful, just marvelous. I thought everything was beautiful. The dance, music, backdrops, and choreography were all perfect. They were very unique and wonderful. I was stunned. I can tell that the dancers have a lot of perseverance, and that they were very disciplined."
When she was asked whether she would recommend the show to her students, she answered, "Of course, I would. I would tell my students and all their parents all about this show. I will also tell them to notice the beautiful way that the dancers move, and to come next year."
Another group of interviewees was Linn, Lorine, and Makayla, an eight-year-old girl, from Fresno. Linn brought her daughter Makayla to the show because she is Chinese and adopted. Linn wanted her to learn more about her own country's culture, and have fun too.
"We are also fascinated by Chinese culture," says Linn. "I loved the dance about the Falun Gong practitioners, with the little girl and the banner. It was a very emotional dance, and it showed how people don't even have freedom in some places, but how alive they are when they do."
Meanwhile, Lorine said, "I almost cried, it was so beautiful."
Makayla exclaimed, "I really like the first dance! It had all these colors and little short dance pieces in one, and sort of tells you what this show is all about."
When the group of three was asked whether they would come next year, they answered in unison: "Yes!"
