SAN FRANCISCO—Families and individuals were stunned by the outstanding performance of NTDTV's Chinese New Year Spectacular at the Orpheum Theatre on Friday, Jan. 25.
Yasha Eliasberg, a math professor from Palo Alto, came to the show, and brought his granddaughter Mila too.
Craig Stehr from Berkeley says that he first heard about the show at a meditation group that he regularly attends. "I wanted to come because I felt it looked peaceful and similar and related to meditation," he explained.
An attorney from Walnut Creek named Christopher Alva felt that Chinese ethnic dancing has an interesting style as it contains many different characteristics and can be expressed in many different forms.
"I liked the Water Sleeves and the Mongolian Bowl Dance the best," he said. Alva hopes that his one-and-a-half-year-old will be old enough to come with him next year. "We'll see," he said. "It'll be the terrible twos!"
Suzanna Dyle-Greensite is a thirteen-year-old student living in San Francisco, who came to the show with her mother. She says that this show really appealed to her because she appreciates dance, being a ballet and folk dance student herself.
Suzanna observed that Chinese classical dance is "both similar and different from ballet."
The opening program, Descent of the Celestial Kings, was among her favorite, though she also liked both the drum dances. She said that she would like to attend next year and would certainly urge others to go too.
"It really is a spectacular," she concluded.
