SAN FRANCISCO—Mike, an engineer from the East Bay, came to watch the Chinese New Year Spectacular in San Francisco.
"I like the history of it, the presenting of it, and the cultural background which is 5,000 years old," he said.
Mike really enjoyed "learning about actual Chinese arts through the show, and about the dance itself, the movements of the dance, which seem to carry deep meaning. It's different from American dance, meaning ballet and jazz."
"My niece is a ballet artist, and my daughter does Asian dance as well," Mike explained, to show he was somewhat familiar with the principles of dancing.
He commented that his wife is Chinese, but admitted that he doesn't know much about Chinese culture or history.
However, he said that he is learning more about Chinese arts, "about the movements themselves, and the history of the Gods, the story of the Sun, and the other classic stories."
He stated that the performance is "educational, it's enjoyable."
"It was great. I'd like to see it every year," Mike concluded.
