On January 26, 2008, the Divine Performing Arts (DPA) impressed Chicago audiences with a cultural masterpiece. Attendees had much to say about the DPA Saturday performances in the NTDTV 2008 Chinese New Year Spectacular.
Linda, an insurance salesperson, said this about the show: "Excellent! I loved to see the way they float across the stage. [That's] inner peace."
Angelique, a teacher, was invited to the Gala as a surprise from her partner. She shared what she liked most about the show. "The music, culture and dance . . . I liked the drums the best. The dances were slow, and very graceful, very elegant." She added enthusiastically, "I would absolutely come again."
Frank Karin, a quality engineer, happened to see a demonstration of the Spectacular through a co-worker. He brought his wife and two children to see the show. "It was great – the colors were fabulous. I loved seeing the Chinese culture." About the dancers, he said, "Definitely all in harmonious synchronization . . . [They] showed a lot of accuracy and skill." Raul Diaz, a lab technologist, saw an advertisement about the Gala on Channel 7. "It was beautiful," he said. "I'm speechless. I liked seeing the cultures blended together and the variety — that there were singers and dancers."
Dorothy Krushing and her son, William, from Naperville attended the show. Dorothy retired after 37 years as a teacher. William works in government. They'd read an article in the local newspaper about the event and were intrigued. Later, when they saw the musical "Wicked" they were handed brochures for the Spectacular.
Dorothy said, "I was intrigued that they dealt so much with classical music and dance." She went on to say: "It's tragic, to me, what they are saying about the people being persecuted. I think it's great they can be here to express themselves."
