SAN FRANCISCO—A lively audience filled the San Francisco Orpheum Theatre on its last performance of Divine Performing Arts Chinese New Year Spectacular.
Among those who attended the last show was Yongzi Ma, a professional cellist from San Jose. He has a rich music background having played the cello since he was nine years old.
Ma told us that he has come to the Spectacular every year since it first started coming to the Bay Area in 2005.
He said, "This year's show was fantastic. It looked very professional. They are very well organized. I liked every single program, they were wonderful … I liked them all."
Ma felt that the Spectacular has been better and better each year. Being a musician he particularly enjoyed the fact this show was the first that had a live orchestra.
Besides coming to enjoy the beauty of traditional Chinese dance, Ma commented on the fact that in China there is no freedom, and therefore felt a desire "to come support a show like this."
After seven successful showings of the Chinese New Year Spectacular in San Francisco, the Divine Performing Arts group now travels to New York where they can be seen at Radio City Music Hall for 15 performances starting on Jan. 30.
