SAN FRANCISCO—Divine Performing Arts Chinese New Year Spectacular is finishing up its seven-performance-run at San Francisco's Orpheum Theater. The audience at the Jan. 26 show attended the second to last performance.

"It is exhilarating! The show came through to me, it is unique," said James Franklin Farber, a San Jose native who now lives in Morgan Hill.

Farber enjoyed the Masters of Ceremonies humor when talking about the various musical instruments used by the orchestra.

As far as his favorite piece he said, "I want to make sure the audience didn't influence me on which my favorite performance was. The solo soprano with the piano was a favorite."

Farber, a pianist and composer himself is currently working on a musical—World—which involves places such as China and Vietnam and proposes original music with the author's own theme.

Growing up in San Jose, James had learned quite a bit about Asian cultures due to San Jose's rich Vietnamese community.

"I have a certain amount of familiarity with Chinese culture because of things like Tai-Chi and being around certain Buddhist temples," yet James feels he learned more tonight through the performances.

Farber also added after seeing the show, "Billions in China are without the freedom to criticize the government."

Starting on Jan. 30, the NTDTV Chinese New Year Splendor will play for 15 shows at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
