CHICAGO—Music resounded through the Arie Crown Theatre at McCormick Place on Saturday afternoon as the Divine Performing Arts company wowed the audience in its second of three performances in Chicago. The "Chinese New Year Spectacular," back for its third consecutive year in Chicago, consisted of some past favorites as well as new acts that succeeded in enchanting the audience.
With the Year of the Rat just around the corner, people of all ages filled the theater to watch traditional Chinese song and dance. Roman Stoffel, a retired citizen from West Bend, Wisconsin, came to the show with a whole bus of friends to see the show and was amazed by the show. "It was very pretty and colorful."
The talents and abilities of all the dancers left a significant impression on Stoffel: "What they can do—so fancy!"
Silvia Jara, a registered nurse from Chicago, was impressed by several aspects of the whole performance. "The costumes are wonderful and colorful. And the background, how there's an image and then it appears on stage. I think that's wonderful. It's a great creation."
The show was also an opportunity for people to gain knowledge of the 5,000-year-old Chinese culture. "I like that they're giving some education between the performances. You learn something new," she added.
