SAN FRANCISCO—Dr. Gunter Seefeldt is a native of Switzerland. He attended the matinee and second to last performance of Divine Performing Arts Chinese New Year Spectacular at San Francisco's Orpheum Theater on Jan. 26.
Asked what he thinks about the show Dr. Seefeldt said "This show is China at its very best, its very best traditional sense, musical sense, harmony and perfection.
"I've been to China quite a few times—it is a compliment in addition to everything is in my head about China. The drummers were a powerful expression."
"It is a perfect blend of combining," continues Dr. Seefeldt referring to ancient stories with more contemporary events.
"For anyone who has never been to China I can't think of something better then this to see from the musical aspect, to the vocal aspect, to the acrobatics—which, as we learned from the show grew out of the Chinese traditional dance."
Dr. Seefeldt worked for 25 years for the state of California placing university students in different countries for three-six months at a time.
He is currently a consultant for 35 American universities for which he places students in 12 countries including China, Taiwan, and Mongolia. The typical Swiss speaks three languages (French, Italian, and German).
In addition, Dr. Gunter speaks fluent Spanish, English, Japanese, and took nine years of Latin. He is starting to learn Chinese, what he calls his biggest challenge added to his linguistic skills.
Passionate about his work, Dr. Gunter is using his European background to make it easier to determine at what level he can place students overseas. "We need to take young Americans and take them to the world—they do more good to the world then governments do."
The last opportunity to see the show in San Francisco is tonight's 8:00 p.m. performance.
Then, starting on Jan. 30, the NTDTV Chinese New Year Splendor will play for 15 shows at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
