SAN FRANCISCO—San Franciscans and residents from different parts of the Bay Area discovered the Divine Performing Arts's Chinese New Year Spectacular show on Jan. 25 in different ways.
Jon Carlson, from Pleasantville found out about the show from a TV review about it. "It looked really good, very interesting and we wanted to come." Carlson said. "Then I got the tickets online."
Carlson felt that the show transported him to the time he visited Asia.
"I got very good seats in the orchestra section and they were worth it! I loved it, it was a great view. The show was very professional and nice, very entertaining. I loved the colorful costumes."

Carlson enjoyed the way stories were told in the show, using dance as a way of expression. "It was really cool! We learned about Asian culture. It is history, that is exactly what it is!"
Luis Zumaeta, a psychologist and consultant for Social Services from San Francisco, and his family came to see the show because they saw it advertised on a flyer his wife received close to work.
"Our daughters were the ones who insisted that we come to see the show."
His wife, Lina Morales, works for the city of San Francisco and her office is close to the Theatre. She brought the flyer home and her two daughters who play piano became immediately interested and wanted to come.
"I am happy we came to see the show. I loved the costumes, the colors, the Chinese history, and culture, everything was very pretty."
Zumaeta said, "I liked the show very much! I loved the cultural part of the show and the smoothness of the dancer's movements. They were very soft and delicate. It was very interesting."
The two daughters, Rebecca, 9, and Raquel, 7, have a special affinity with music and art, and love playing the piano. Rebecca said the music was very smooth. "I have never seen that before, nor that type of dance."
Raquel said, "I like the drums and the boy and girl singing, and of course the piano."
There are still two more performances at the San Francisco Orpheum. The Spectacular, performed by the Divine Performing Arts company will perform its last day in San Francisco on Saturday Jan. 27.
It also leaves the Arie Crown in Chicago on Jan. 27.
Then, starting on Jan. 30, all three touring groups will perform at the NTDTV Chinese New Year Splendor for 15 shows at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
