Alicia Mentell (The Epoch Times)

Waukegan resident Alicia Mentell traveled over an hour to Chicago's Arie Theatre to see the Chinese New Year Spectacular. A superintendent of the Waukegan Park and Recreation Division, Mantell was quite taken by the performance.

"The costumes and the props were exquisite," she said. "The waterfall scene was magnificent. The drumming was fantastic!" Captivated by performance favorite, The Mongolian dance, Mentell observed that the segment showed balance and gracefulness which she particularly appreciated.

"Chinese acrobatics are truly the best in the world," Mentell observed.

Alicia mentioned that while she was thoroughly entertained, she also learned a lot about Chinese culture.

"Historically, Mongolians were the ones who invented pants because they ride horses," she explained, sharing her new found knowledge.

The evening made quite an impression on Mentell who will definitely return for next year's performance. She looks forward to learning more about traditional Asian cultures.

The Chinese New Year Spectacular continues on Saturday in Chicago. For other shows in the Divine Performing Arts world tour, please visit: http://www.divineperformingarts.com
