CHICAGO—According to the Web site for the Divine Performing Arts, the company's shows aim at "reviving the lost treasures of China." According to one audience member who saw the Chinese New Year Spectacular at Chicago's Arie Crown Theater Friday night, the company is succeeding.
Mr. Bing Xu is a volleyball coach at a Chicago area high school. Originally from mainland China, he is familiar with Chinese cultural shows. Asked if there was any difference between the Spectacular and the shows he had seen before, Xu volunteered, "This is the true Chinese tradition. I feel this is it."
Xu explained, "China has a long tradition and a deep culture. We lost part of it, but we want the real Chinese tradition."
Xu then said, "I am very proud." Asked why he was proud, Xu elaborated, "This show. This show makes me proud."
Xu said he "really liked the show," and when asked to name a favorite part, his answer was, "Everything."
Two of the acts in the Spectacular portray the persecution of Falun Gong in China. Asked about these acts, Xu said, "Every country has different religions. China has Buddhism and Taoism. People believe in these from the heart. It has nothing to do with politics."
The Chinese New Year Spectacular continues on Saturday in Chicago. For other shows in the Divine Performing Arts world tour, please visit: http://www.divineperformingarts.com The Epoch Times is a proud sponsor of the Chinese New Year Spectacular.
