SAN FRANCISCO—People came from all around the San Francisco Bay Area to attend today's first showing of the Chinese New Year Spectacular , a four-month-long touring performance stopping here for seven shows only. Crowds poured out of the Orpheum Theatre in San Francisco, lucky to catch one of the shows which run Jan. 23-26.
The theme of the tour centers on the Chinese New Year, the major holiday of the Chinese people, which is said to be a holiday full of tradition, joy, and hope. Joy is exactly what many audience members felt after seeing the first half of the Spectacular.
Victoria Theodore, a pianist from Oakland had a lot to say at the intermission: "It was beautiful; the dancers were just gorgeous. Their technique was flawless."
The Divine Performing Arts company, along with the live orchestra, train year-round to develop the coordination and skills which impressed pianist Theodore.
"I enjoyed the music," she commented.
She especially enjoyed the way that the dancers moved in step with the elegant sounds.
The music "seemed to suit the dance very well. It was very uplifting," observed Theodore.
"A lot of major tonality, very happy sounding music," she added.
Theodore was invited to see the show by a friend. She felt that it would be something that "children would really, really enjoy."
