Chia, a retired teacher, is originally from India. She and her husband came to the Detroit Opera House to see the Detroit debut of the Spectacular. This retired teacher said "I was absolutely thrilled to be here! And then I saw the costumes and listened to the music!

"When I read the content of the program book, I realized how China and India have been so blessed with spiritual awakening. I'm so impressed with everything I've seen. I only wish that the show was here for more than one day, because I'd come to see it again.

"I just want to run home and call all of my friends and tell them that they have to see this show! I practice yoga meditation, and everything that I feel when I meditate, I saw in the theatre tonight."

Chia's husband, a retired engineer from GM said, "I feel like I've traveled back in time to the origins of Buddhism and spirituality. I hope that this show comes back to Detroit next year, because I definitely plan to be here!

Druselda Johnson is the Vice-President for Communications and Corporate Events for her company. "I think that this show is, well, truly spectacular! I loved the dancing and the music, and I hope that it comes back to Detroit again next year, I definitely plan to see it."

Bethany Gull, a fourth grade teacher came from Southfield, Michigan to downtown Detroit to see the Spectacular makes its Detroit debut. Mrs Gull and her husband had seen the show advertised on their local PBS station and decided to bring their children to make a family night of it.

"It's beautiful and really lovely and my family is really enjoying the show. We plan to come back next year," she said.

Professor Bonnie Sloan from Wayne State University watched the show with her husband. "We absolutely love the music and the dances. When we were in Shanghai, we saw some tumbling acts there, but this show is much more mature," said Prof. Sloan.

They said that they would certainly come back next year, and planned to recommend it to their friends.

A high school student named Tim Liu said that he liked the show very much. "What I especially liked about it was the way the various Chinese ethnic groups were presented, not just the Han. For me, the Spectacular showcased the integration of these ethnic groups.

"I also liked the integration of modern day China with its' ancient culture, which brought to light issues such as Falun Gong, which is something that many people don't hear about. I'd like to come back next year, and I'll definitely share this with my friends, because many of them are interested in Chinese culture."
