The Divine Performing Arts company brought an extraordinary show, Chinese New Year Spectacular to a near-capacity audience at the Detroit Opera House on Tuesday evening, Jan 22. Four Avid Theatergoers from suburban Detroit were "very impressed with the production."
Fred Schade, a social worker by profession, but an amateur actor, commented, the show "was extremely well organized."
"Everything was nicely choreographed. I found that even the drums were well-choreographed. Costumes were gorgeous. Everything was handled just marvelously and has a grand air!"
Fred's wife, Jane continued, "Yes, very organized. "There was no pause. No hesitation. It flowed every nicely. It was just kept on smoothly."
Their daughter Amanda teaches theater and English literature at a local high school. She thought that "every detail of the production was in place."
"So many, so many, so many beautiful costumes. The use of the projection screen is just excellent! The educational element was brought into the play every smoothly and in a very entertaining way. From the beginning when the curtain opened, that moment was very impressive, and everyone just stayed impressed to the end."
She would like to introduce this show to her students next year. "I think that they would enjoy it. And they need a broader cultural experience."
Jeff, an historian who is Fred and Jane's son-in-law, thought that the two hosts "did a wonderful job to bring each performance that came through. They let us know what to expect. They told us the story that the dance was telling and explained everything very well."
"In bringing to life the myths and legends of ancient China, along with stories from the present, the developers of the Spectacular are skilled and creative in the use of state-of-art technology."
The Epoch Times is a proud sponsor of the Chinese New Year Spectacular. The show will continues in San Francisco from January 23 through January 26, to Minneapolis on January 24 and Chicago on January 25 and 26 this week. For details see bestchineseshows.com
