LOS ANGELES—New Tang Dynasty TV's Chinese New Year Spectacular presented four shows at the largest theatre in Los Angeles, Nokia Theatre, in which the Divine Performing Arts on Tour showcased classical Chinese performing arts. Featuring pure ancient Chinese culture, the show has been highly acclaimed by Western and Eastern audiences alike.

Though Chinese consulates around the world have tried every means to sabotage the show, the show's popularity keeps rising, even among some Chinese high officials. During LA's third show on January 19, a high official of the Chinese central government told a reporter that he decided to watch the show again after he watched the opening show on the previous day.

The official said that he found the show "wonderful," "creative" and "shocking." "I think the most important feature of this show is that it faithfully represented the true meaning of Chinese culture, so I enjoyed it very well," he said.

He highly commended the skills of the performers and the beauty of the dances, but what impressed him most was how different the Spectacular is from shows in China.

"In China art shows have to serve political purposes," he said. "This show focuses on presenting Chinese traditional culture, and is not used for other purposes. This is the biggest difference. In China we rarely have opportunities to appreciate pure art." Then he added that though a few programs mentioned the on-going persecution of Falun Gong in China, he felt the show mainly aims to present traditional culture.

The official said he believes the show will have a very positive influence in Western society. "It is pushing Chinese culture to the world," he said. "It tells the world what China really is. …Eventually it will generate enormous impact on modern China."

He told the reporter his last name, and said he is a high official in China's central government. But he asked the reporter not to reveal his identity, because it may cause him trouble after he returns to China.
