LOS ANGELES—The Chinese New Year Spectacular show at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles made positive impressions on many of the attendees, both foreign and American born Chinese, and with other culturally diverse audience members.
Yi-xia Young, data-entry worker, left China for the United States in 1969, and has been living here ever since. She came here to see the show with her daughter, Michelle Young. "The show was much better than we expected, and we enjoyed the various kinds of dancing the most," said the mother and daughter.
Minakshi Dahya is a producer, director, and dancer from India and is currently working as a pharmacist. "The color, costumes, background, and the entire performance is simply beautiful," said Dahya, "I think music and dancing is a universal form of communication." Bin Zhu, also a pharmacist, came with his whole family, including his mother, to see the show for the first time. He said that he enjoyed the entire show, "Especially the singing, and I hope there would be more singing next time."
His wife loved the 'Water Sleeves' performance the best. His son, Yi-heng Zhu, a 9-year-old student, said he was "excited" watching the 'Drummers of the Tang Court.' The family came to the United States 14 years ago from China.
'I liked the One About Truth, Compassion, and Forbearance the Best'
Kate, a student at UCI, raved, "It was pretty spectacular! I did not know a whole lot about Chinese culture but I liked the one about Truth, Compassion, and Forbearance the best."
