LOS ANGELES—Reminiscent of times which seem to be all but lost within the traffic and noise of modern culture, a glimpse of pure beauty is sometimes all it takes to shake the heart.

Captivating audiences yet again at Los Angeles' new Nokia Theatre, the Chinese New Year Spectacular held its last performance in the City of Angels at 2:00 p.m., Jan. 20.

Presenting not only the form of classical Chinese dance; the performance also sought to present the values and essence of China's 5,000 years of culture. In a dance entitled, "The Loyalty of Yue Fei," the story of a famous general from twelfth century China is told.

"I like the stories, I've always been fascinated by the lore; and the dance expression is nice," said Morgan Marcus, a Client Services worker, "It's magical! Very well crafted."

Other parts of the show, from gentle ethnic dances, to the solo performance of the Chinese two-stringed instrument the erhu, for many it brought about a new understanding of this ancient culture.

Rod Tayag, who had come to see the show with Morgan Marcus said, "It was great!"

As the Divine Performing Arts heads east to Las Vegas on Monday, Jan. 21, the Nokia Theater retains the echoes of the ancient culture that resounded in the halls.

The show will then continue to San Francisco for seven performances from Jan. 23-26.
