TORONTO-Amit Ri, an IT Consultant, took in the final Toronto performance of the Chinese New Year Spectacular on Sunday night at Toronto's Sony Centre for the Performing Arts.

"I loved it, amazing. I have read a lot about the Chinese civilization, but I think that a lot of it came to life today in the show," he said.

The Divine Performing Arts dance company says that through the Spectacular it strives to portray the essence of China's rich 5,000-year history. After watching the show's programs of classical Chinese dancing and music, Amit said he felt it was a valuable experience.

"Overall, it actually gives a very positive impression of the Chinese civilization. I think this is of immense educational value for kids."

"I think you come to understand the richness of the Chinese culture, their beliefs, the way Chinese culture developed over a period of thousands of years. It answers questions as to how the civilization has existed for so many years and continues to thrive. When you look at the amazing Chinese community in Toronto, and you see it thriving, you understand the reasons behind the success of the community."

"I think this is a very good way to basically showcase your country and your origin," Ri said to the Chinese interviewer.

"I would love to come again next year. It was amazing."

The Chinese New Year Spectacular finished its run in Toronto to a standing ovation. The show now continues to the United States and then on through Asia, Europe and Oceania before returning to Canada next spring for shows in Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton.
