The opening of the 2008 Chinese New Year Spectacular at Toronto's Sony Centre for the Performing Arts provided a cultural treat for a capacity crowd on Friday night.

Toronto City Councilor Ron Moeser and his wife, Heather, were delighted with the show and gave it high praise.

"The drumming was great! The dancing, the style, and the grace of the show were wonderful, so enjoyable. I love the way it was presented," said Moeser.

"The costumes were just amazing. I'd like to get to my wife one of those costumes," he joked.

"I love the costumes. I wish I had the grace!" said Heather.

When asked what her favourite performance was, Mrs. Moeser said: "I like the dance with the peacock the best. It was so graceful!"

After the last act, the audience gave an ovation lasted throughout the curtain call, with many rising to show their appreciation.

The Spectacular will perform four more shows in Toronto before continuing its global tour including an 11-day run at the legendary Radio City Music Hall in New York.

After dates in Asia and Europe the Spectacular returns to Canada this spring for shows in Vancouver, Edmonton, and Calgary. By the end of its tour, the Spectacular will have played to a total live audience of 650,000 in over 60 cities and 14 countries.
