Deborah Frizzell, an art history student at McGill University, said she was amazed by the Divine Performing Arts Chinese New Year Spectacular currently playing at the Place des Arts in Montreal.

She attended the show on January 16 as a way to celebrate the Chinese New Year. She said she received more than she expected, adding that the opening scene was "delightful and so unusual."

"You felt heavenly at the sight of the clouds at the bottom of the feet of dancers. I was totally enchanted with the show."

Frizell, who also studies the Chinese language, said she appreciated the opportunity to learn a bit more about Chinese culture through the Spectacular .

"About 3 weeks ago, someone handed me a pamphlet. It seemed very interesting. I wanted to celebrate the Chinese New Year, I thought attending the show would be wonderful way to do this," she said.

"I especially enjoyed the fantastic dances," she said. "They are so lucky to have such a wonderful orchestra. The music brought expression to the dances to tell the story."

"The dancers are so talented," she said, adding that she was especially amazed by the graceful leaps of the dancers.

She also enjoyed the legends portrayed in the Spectacular . "I think they artfully combined ancient and modern times."
