Chinese New Year Spectacular wound up its Montreal premiere at Place des Arts Tuesday night to a standing ovation and rave reviews from the audience.

"A wonderful demonstration of cultural diversity. A powerful reminder of the importance of communication," said Chris Kennedy, program director for the popular radio station Q92.

Kennedy said he will recommend the show to everyone, including his Q92 listeners. He added that he was inspired by the brilliant array of colours of the costumes worn by the performers.

Lucie Lecours, information director at Transcontinental, Canada's largest printer, described the Spectacular as "enormously relaxing," and said she particularly appreciated the classical aspect of the show.

She said the grace and beauty of the show were what impressed her the most.

"A gracious and inspiring show," said Lecours.

Miss Namaka, originally from Benin in Western Africa, said she enjoyed the universal message of tolerance portrayed in the Spectacular.

"We need more human values," she said, adding that she was moved by "the vitality projected by the show."

"The performers emanated a joie de vivre. They emitted grace, simplicity, and lightness," said Namaka, adding that it was "a beautiful way" to learn more about Chinese culture.

"I absolutely want to highlight the efforts and all the work that was done for this performance," she said. "The MCs were superb, it was beautiful to see the chemistry between them, and to host the show in three languages was also incredible."

Pascale Goulet, who brought along her whole family, described the Spectacular as "majestic." She said one program in particular touched her because of her "spiritual side."

Goulet said she appreciated the contact with Chinese culture that the Spectacular provides and the symbolism the show portrays. She said she will recommend the show to her brother living in Vancouver whose wife is Asian.
