The Montreal premiere of Chinese New Year Spectacular impressed all who saw it last night at the Maisonneuve Theatre at Place des Arts.

One such audience member was Montreal McCord Museum director Victoria Dickinson who was especially interested in the show because the museum is currently holding an exhibition about Montreal's Chinese community.

"What thrilled me the most was to see the dance and the music combined in the same piece. Sublime!" said Dickinson. "The energy in the Mongolian dance was tremendous."

She went on to say that the show reflected an emotionally packed universal human experience and that the city of Montreal, by receiving such multicultural shows, was positioning itself to be a world capital of cultural diversity.

Dickinson said that she thinks the Chinese New Year Spectacular "must be seen by all."

Soprano Ching-Hui Kup Desrochers, winner of New Tang Dynasty TV's First Global Chinese Singing Competition, said she has seen the show previously both in NYC and in Montreal.

She found it "very exciting" and when asked about how she would feel if she were part of the cast, she said, "It would be very moving to perform in Montreal, especially since my family and my friends live here. I also have students ... it would really be marvelous!"

The Mongolian dance also impressed Desrochers, who was in awe when she saw this scene, as the costumes and the colours "really enchanted" her.

New York-based Divine Performing Arts, the performance company that presents the Spectacular, seems to have conquered the hearts of many Montrealers by the richness of its show.

The Spectacular will remain in Montreal until January 17. It will then play in Toronto from Jan.18–20, and will play in Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton in the spring.

The Epoch Times is a proud sponsor of the Divine Performing Arts shows that will perform in over 60 cities worldwide in 2008. To find a show near you, please visit www.bestchineseshows.com.
